How the Tragic Shooting of “Baby Uiie” Happened
The shooting that claimed the life of Jabari Henley occurred at approximately 11:11 p.m. local time outside a smoke shop located in the 6900 block of South Figueroa Street and 69th Street.
Witnesses at the scene reported that Henley was seen approaching a vehicle moments before someone inside opened fire on him.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department immediately arrived at the scene, but they pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
LAPD officers then immediately processed the scene to collect relevant evidence.
Police had no motive or suspect description and did not confirm reports that the victim was Henley’s son, but the Los Angeles County Office of the Medical Examiner reported Saturday that the man killed was Jabari Henley.
Luce Cannon, a music mogul currently in custody with Big U, told TMZ that he believed the younger Henley knew the shooter.
Henley’s Family Background
Jabari “Baby Uiie” Henley is one of four children, along with Michael, Daiyan (a linebacker for the LA Chargers), and Cherysh.
He is the son of Eugene “Big U” Henley Jr., a widely recognized rap executive and prominent figure in the Los Angeles community.
Big U himself had a reputation as the alleged leader of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips gang and was known for his role in launching the careers of renowned musicians like Nipsey Hussle.
Eugene “Big U” Henley Jr.’s Legal Case
This tragedy comes amidst a difficult time for the Henley family, as Eugene “Big U” Henley Jr. is currently facing serious indictments from a federal grand jury.
In early 2025, he was indicted on numerous charges, including racketeering, fraud, tax evasion, and running a racketeering conspiracy (RICO).
Prosecutors accused Big U of leading a criminal enterprise involved in numerous serious crimes, including murder and kidnapping.
“Ain’t going to be no real evidence,” Henley posted on Instagram earlier this year.
“Ain’t going to be no real nothing … Now, they’re saying all that stuff to assassinate my character.”
He is also accused of using the charity “Developing Options” as a front for fraudulent purposes.
Big U is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, with a trial scheduled for May 4, 2026.
